STICKY BBQ VEGAN 'RIBS'!!!!! Many of you requested it, it took some practice but I manage to come up with the perfect recipe, that is meaty, sticky & of course smokey! These seitan ribs are the perfect party food & serve 8-10. Yes theres lots of ingredients but thats how you produce the most amazing flavour. Make sure you knead the dough firmly for 10 minutes. Otherwise the seitan will be spongey. I also served it with fluffy mashed potatoes & tender stem broccoli. I hope you enjoy. ✿ Veganlovlie Recipes / Flatbread : In one of my What I Ate Wednesday videos, I presented these sweet potato flatbreads with mashed avocados as what I ate for breakfast on that day (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CoKinIJyDM). I have had quite a few requests for the recipe since then. So, I thought I'd share the recipe; it is such an easy one with just two ingredients. Who doesn't like a two-ingredient recipe?! One important procedure in this recipe is to use the sweet potato while it is hot. The heat makes a much softer roti. By the way, white sweet potatoes would also work well in this recipe although the dough may require a tablespoon of water added in as white sweet potatoes tend to be a little drier than the orange ones. These sweet potato rotis also keep well in an airtight container for the next day. Reheating them on a tawa or skillet brings their softness back. They go well with sweet as well as savoury fillings. I do suggest you pair them with some spicy curry as their subtle sweetness makes a palatable contrast. ✿ FULL PRINTABLE RECIPE ✿ ▶ http://www.veganlovlie.com/2015/03/sweet-potato-flatbread-no-added-oil.html Concerning Gluten-Free options: I have experimented with a store-bought gluten-free flour blend but it didn't work well. It had a blend of rice flour, tapioca flour, cornstarch and some gum. Some people have tried with chickpea flour+millet mix and they said they obtained some decent results although they had to do smaller ones because they were a bit more tricky to handle. Other people have tried with coconut flour and reported that the rotis turned out good enough although they had to keep flouring them when rolling them out. I suggest if you using one of these gluten-free flours/mix, you try roll then out in between 2 sheets of parchment or wax paper. I haven't made these with any other gluten-free flour for myself but if I do find a gluten-free blend that works, I will update this. ✿ Help Veganlovlie Grow ✿ ▶ Like, comment and share this video. I tried making seitan for the first time, a vegan "meat". It's surprisingly easy, and here I not only make mock chicken, I make mock jerk chicken! Watch to see how I do it. Recipe: 3/4 cup gluten flour 1.5 tbsp vegan chicken broth 1/2 tsp paprika 3/4 tsp Mediterranean seasoning (optional) Dash of salt Mix the above items together. Then add 1/2 cup cold water and mix together until the seasoned seitan becomes a ball. If you have a very hot pepper sauce (scotch bonnet, for example), add a couple of drops to either the entire batch of seitan or to half (as I did in the video). Or you can omit adding the pepper sauce to your batter. You can add it to the coating. Now, separate your seitan into pieces (cut or tear) approximately 2 inches in size and put into a pot of hot water. Add one to two tbsp of the vegan chicken stock to your water. Boil for about 20-30 minutes. As they cook, prepare your batter as follows: --1 bowl of plain flour, approximately 1/2 cup with a dash of salt. Mix and set aside. --1 "wet bowl" in which you'll put approximately 1/4 cup non dairy milk and 1.5 tsp of mustard. You can add a tbsp of vegan ranch dressing or caesar dressing if you wish. If you want to make the entire batch "jerk chicken" then add your jerk seasoning (or hot pepper sauce of your choice) to your wet mixture and combine. If you have a really hot pepper, add maybe 4 or 5 drops and taste to see if it's hot enough for you. The spice factor has to be to your liking! --1 "seasoned" flour bowl which consists of: 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 tsp black tsp, 1/2 tsp paprika, 1 tsp Mediterranean all purpose seasoning, 1/4 tsp sea salt. If you want extra crunch, add about 1/4 cup dried bread crumbs or crumbled potato chips. Once your seitan has cooked and cooled, dip into the plain flour mixture, then into the wet mixture, and then into the crispy seasoned flour mixture and then fry in a pan until brown and crispy. Then, enjoy!
