Stories from inside Microsoft (1998 - 2003)

I worked at Microsoft for around 5 years near the turn of the century. In that time I was yelled at by Bill Gates, spit on by Steve Ballmer, and had all manner of odd experiences. This is me telling those stories. All in one place. == This episode sponsored by == System76: https://system76.com Pogo Linux: http://www.pogolinux.com/ == More about me == Like what I do? Disabling Intel Management Engine w/System76

Last week, System76 announced that it is working to disable IME (Intel Management Engine) across their product line. Not just on new machines, but on laptops (etc) already shipped. I bring on one of their engineers, along with their head honcho, to talk about exactly how they're doing it and what it means. The conversation then dives into Open Source hardware, manufacturing, and their entry into the Linux Distribution market: Pop!_OS. 2018: The Year of Creepy Tech

2018 is shaping up to be the creepiest year in technology history. Sure, we've had mass surveillance for years. Facial recognition and cell phones -- also highly creepy. But two companies -- Amazon and Google -- have really turned the creepy factor up to 11. With such things as Amazon controlled door locks to Google talking to other humans for you (and teaching your children to treat Artificial Intelligence nicely)... well... 2018 is definitely winning the creepy tech contest. == This episode sponsored by == Purism: https://puri.sm/ Pogo Linux: http://www.pogolinux.com/ LulzBot 3D Printers: https://www.lulzbot.com/

Joined today by Gardiner "The Linux Gamer" Bryant! In this, the longest Linux Thursday in a long, long time -- We talk about old computers, RISC V gaming consoles, classic operating systems with Open Source versions, and wonder why all of us in the Linux world can't just get along and be cool to each other.
