In this video we will see how to make godhumai maavu halwa recipe in Tamil. This recipe is similar to that of Tirunelveli halwa but this halwa is made from godhumai maavu / wheat flour instead of using whole samba wheat. This wheat flour halwa only requires a 3 hour soaking period compared to the overnight soaking required for Tirunelveli halwa. This halwa takes a long time to make, I have clearly shown the stages in formation of this halwa. If we speed up the process by increasing the temperature, the halwa will get burnt or the raw smell of wheat flour won't be eliminated by fully cooking it. So we have to cook it slowly in a medium heat. So prefer to add food coloring but if you caramelize the sugar and add it in the recipe the halwa will get a beautiful and natural color. This recipe is guaranteed to produce perfect results each time. The only variable in this recipe is the amount of sweetness, I prefer a moderate sweetness and I use 3/4 cup of sugar for 1 cup of semiya but if you prefer a sweeter version you can use 1 cup of sugar for 1 cup of semiya. Even if you buy the roasted semiya from the store, always roast for a couple of minutes in ghee, this will ensure that the vermicelli holds its shape and texture at the end of the recipe. If this pre-roasting step is skipped it will form a huge lumpy kesari.
